The experienced forward trio of Iain Moody, Russell Anderson and James Head have all made the move from Melrose 1XV to play for the Southern Knights, adding significant strength to the pack.

Iain Moody, a number eight, started playing rugby at Berwick RFC before making the move to Kelso where he played for the borders side at the 2009 Melrose Sevens. The powerful ball carrier also played for Boroughmuir before moving to Melrose in 2105. Moody, a Scottish Club International player was part of the 2017 – 2019 Melrose squad to win the ‘double-double’; both the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup titles.

Russell Anderson, a hooker, started rugby at his hometown of Langholm, and has played in the Scottish Premiership for Gala before a short spell at Darlington Mowden Park. The dynamic front-row player made a move to Jersey Reds before returning to the borders to play for Melrose in 2017. Since joining Melrose, the Scotland U20 cap has been a solid link in the squad’s armour, leading him to also form part of the Scotland Club International squad.

Second-row James Head is another familiar Melrose player to join the Southern Knights. He started his rugby playing career at New Abbot RFC in Devon. James made the move to Hartpury College to further his education and played alongside Southern Knights captain Craig Jackson.
