Happy New Year to Everyone!

Hope you have all had a wonderful Festive Season and are ready and raring to go for 2024! Things at the club are at full throttle with lots of training going on – the Storm were meant to be playing Gala A here at the Greenyards on Friday night, but we’ve just been informed that the game is off.

As you may have experienced, we had a great day here at the Greenyards on Boxing Day – WHAT a crowd!! Way more people than ever before, and the club was packed to the gills! It was a successful day for us with a 15 : 10 win. You can read Iain’s match report by clicking HERE.  To view Rob Gray’s photos of the day on Facebook CLICK HERE. Boxing Day was also the last day for ‘Man of the Match’ James Brown, who’s off on his travels after 10 seasons at the club! Happy Trails James – you’ll certainly be missed!

This Saturday see’s us heading to Netherdale for the match that was postponed from early December. Never an easy one, and I’m sure the boys would appreciate all the support you can give – Gala will be out for revenge!! It’s also Guerschom Mukendi’s last match as he heads back to Cananda on Monday – all the best Guersch, and we hope you’ve enjoyed your time at Melrose!

If you’d like to see what matches are coming up so you can add them to your new 2024 diaries, please, CLICK HERE to head to the Fixtures & Results page on the website, it covers the 1XV, Storm, U18 Wasps & U16 Wasps.

We’ve had some sad news at the club in the last few days, we’ve been informed that former players Bert Blacklock & Marshall Fairbairn have both passed away. Both Bert & Marshall played in the Championship winning side from the 62-63 season and continued to play well into that decade. Our deepest sympathies go out to their families.

Lastly, if you’re considering sampling a bit of hospitality for this year’s Melrose Sevens, head over to the website and take your pick. There are limited spaces for the Jackson Distillers Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday night, All Day Hospitality in the VIP 1877 Marquee on Saturday and Doddie Club tickets on Saturday too. CLICK HERE for tickets.

That’s it for this week –

Good luck to the 1XV against Gala on Saturday!
