Hope you are all keeping warm during these chilly days! Even with the chill, training goes on at the Greenyards! It’s certainly been paying off these last few games – the 1XV headed to Netherdale on Saturday & came home with a 21 : 34 WIN! It was the last time Guersh put on a black & yellow jersey – he’s now flown back to Canada & so farewell and a massive THANK YOU to him, he’s been a great asset to the team & we’ve really enjoyed having him here!

300 Club – a note from June Frame

The 300 Club is run by June Frame on behalf of our supporters’ club. It raises funds to assist in any improvements or additions to the clubhouse. The cost is £12 per annum per number, paid in January. Prizes each month are £50, £25, £20, £15 & £10. There is an additional special draw in June & December for £250. If you would like to join, please get in tough with June at juneframe@hotmail.com or drop your details and cheque in to the club office. We desperately need new members in order to keep this fun-raiser going. Many thanks.

Visitor to the Club

Last week Scott & Harris welcomed Conrad to the club. Conrad was one of the New Zealand team who our Under 15s met on their trip to France. Conrad’s mum is originally from Glasgow worked in the Borders before moving to New Zealand. She had accompanied the team to France, and mentioned what a great bunch of kids we had, and how well they mixed with others – it also made her day when the squad sang ‘Flower of Scotland’ for her! Well done team – what great ambassadors you are for the club!

Dodcast

We’re very excited to be hosting a special ‘Dodcast’ at the Club Rooms on Friday 2nd February. This will be a celebration of the end of Doddie Aid & the beginning of the 2024 Six Nations. The Dodcast will be hosted by Bruce Aitchison with special guest, Lisa Thomson. We’ll also be showing the France v Ireland game on the big screen and the bar will be open! For tickets to this celebration follow the link below!

Green Bins
A wee appeal! If anyone has an spare/excess green bin floating around and want’s to get rid of it – please get in touch with office@melroserugby.org as we’re looking for bins to use for recycling around the club grounds.

Sad news

The club were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Robbie ‘Bubba’ Robinson last week. An ex-player and father to current player Robbie, his brother Finlay & sister Leilah. Our deepest condolences go out to Bubba’s family and friends. The Cremation Service is at the Borders Crematorium on Friday at 1pm then afterwards here at the Greenyards.

That’s all for this week folks, let’s hope the weather is kind tomorrow in and the matches can go ahead. If you’re planning on heading West for the Accies game, keep your eye on social media for any updates.
Until next time,
Stay warm!
Hilary
