Melrose Rugby Brand Guidelines
Melrose Rugby has a proud and instantly recognisable identity.
Our brand represents more than a rugby club. It represents the Greenyards, our community, our history, the birthplace of Rugby Sevens and generations of players, volunteers and supporters who have worn the black and yellow.
This page contains the approved Melrose Rugby logos, colours and basic guidance for their use.
If you are producing material on behalf of Melrose Rugby, working with the club as a partner or sponsor, or using our identity in promotional material, please use the official assets provided below.
Our Logos
Our logos should always be reproduced from the official artwork supplied by the club.
Do not redraw, recreate or significantly alter any of the logos.

Our primary club identity

Our Colours
Black and yellow are at the heart of Melrose Rugby.
They should dominate club communications, supported by white and a small range of neutral shades where required for layouts and accessibility.
Melrose Yellow

Use yellow for strong brand moments, backgrounds, headings, graphic devices, highlights and calls to action.
Melrose Black

Logo Usage
Our logos should always be clear, legible and treated with respect.
Please:
Use the official supplied artwork.
Maintain the original proportions.
Leave sufficient clear space around the logo.
Ensure strong contrast between the logo and its background.
Use the yellow or white version on dark backgrounds where appropriate.
Use high-resolution or vector artwork for print.
Please do not:
Stretch or squash a logo.
Change its colours.
Rotate it.
add shadows, outlines or effects.
Place it on a visually busy background where it becomes difficult to read.
Separate or rearrange elements of a supplied logo.
Recreate the logo using a different typeface.
Add sponsor logos directly into the Melrose logo.
Clear Space
Every Melrose logo should have sufficient breathing room around it.
As a simple rule, leave clear space around all sides equivalent to approximately the height of the M in the MELROSE wordmark.
No text, partner logo or other significant graphic element should enter this area.
Working With Partners
Where Melrose Rugby appears alongside another organisation, sponsor or governing body, each brand should remain distinct.
Logos should normally:
Be visually balanced.
Have appropriate separation.
Retain their original colours wherever possible.
Never be merged into a new combined logo unless specifically approved.
Sponsors should not alter the Melrose Rugby logo to incorporate their own branding.
Which Logo Should I Use?
General Melrose Rugby activity
Use the Melrose Rugby logo.
Melrose Sevens tournament
Use the Melrose Sevens logo.
Mini rugby / ELC–P7 activity
Use the Melrose Hornets logo.
Boys' youth rugby
Use the Melrose EHS Wasps logo.

Photography, Player Images & Image Rights
Photography is an important part of telling the Melrose Rugby story. Images should feel authentic, positive and representative of the club, our teams and our community.
Player Photography
Before using a photograph of a player, you must make sure the club has the appropriate permission to use that image.
For youth players, particular care must be taken.
If a child or young person is identifiable in an image, you must ensure that the player has the appropriate photo consent recorded with Melrose Rugby before the image is published or used in promotional material.
Do not assume that because a photograph has previously appeared online, in a WhatsApp group or on another social media account that consent has been provided for wider use.
Where there is any doubt, check with the club before publishing the image.
A child's full name should never be published alongside their photograph unless specific approval has been given for that use.
Image Rights
Only use images that Melrose Rugby has the legal right or appropriate permission to use.
This includes photographs used on:
The Melrose Rugby website
Social media
Posters and flyers
Matchday programmes
Advertising
Sponsorship material
Email communications
Presentations
Printed merchandise or promotional material
Do not simply copy or download an image from:
Google Images or another image search engine
Another club or organisation's website
A photographer's website or social media account
Newspapers or online publications
Stock image services without the appropriate licence
Social media posts where usage rights have not been confirmed
The fact that an image is publicly visible online does not mean that it is free to use.
AI-Generated Images
AI-generated imagery should also be used with care.
Do not blindly use an image simply because it has been generated using an AI image tool.
Before using AI-generated content on behalf of Melrose Rugby, make sure:
Its use is appropriate for the club and the intended audience.
It does not imitate or reproduce protected third-party branding or artwork.
There is no uncertainty over whether the image can legally be used for the intended purpose.
It cannot reasonably be mistaken for a genuine photograph of a Melrose player, event or situation where that could mislead people.
Where authentic club photography is available, it should normally be preferred over generic or artificial imagery.
If you are unsure whether Melrose Rugby has the right to use an image, do not publish it until this has been confirmed.
