MELROSE RUGBY LTD: YOUTH POLICY
Young Person Policy
The policy sets out the Young Person Policy of Melrose Rugby Club. It applies to all players, volunteers and persons involved in club operations across our grounds, clubhouse and affiliated activities. The policy supports our commitment of safeguarding, welfare, and licensing compliance.
Definitions:
• A young person is defined as anyone under 18 years of age.
• A child is anyone under 16 years of age.
• A young worker or volunteer is anyone over the school leaving age but under 18 who undertakes any form of paid or voluntary work at the club.
Responsibilities:
• To ensure young people are not exposed to risks due to lack of experience and training
• To take into account of physical and emotional development when assigning tasks
• To prevent access to restricted areas
• To ensure players and volunteers know who to contact if they feel unsure, unwell or unsafe
All club staff, volunteers, and coaches are expected to support the implementation of this policy. Any breaches may result in disciplinary or safeguarding actions in line with club procedures.
Under 16s Team:
The ensure the safety and supervision of anyone under the age of 16:
• U16s are not permitted to be in the clubhouse unless it is:
• During their scheduled training or match times
• While under the direct supervision of a coach, or a designated club official
• Under 16s must not enter the bar area or remain on-site outside of rugby related activities.
• Coaches and team managers will be reminded to supervise U16s at all times during club activities.
• Clear communication will be provided to ensure compliance with our licensing conditions.
Young Workers and Volunteers (16-17 years old)
Young people ages 16-17 who are volunteering or working at the club must be supported through the following measures:
• A role specific risk assessment will be completed before assigning any duties.
• All young workers/volunteers will receive:
• A full induction and task specific training
• Supervision by an experienced adult staff member
• Clear instructions, and any time to ask any questions or raise concerns
• No young person will be allowed to carry out tasks involving:
• High-risk tools, machinery or equipment
• Lone working
• Hazardous substances use
• Works will be scheduled at appropriate times to ensure suitable adult supervision is always available.
