Glasgow Hawks v Melrose
Glasgow Hawks v Melrose – 31/1/26
Following a superb “Burns” Lunch with great entertainment and magnificent hospitality this Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership match, played in cold, wet and breezy conditions, on a heavy pitch was in complete contrast. The hosts kicked off with the breeze at their backs and, this week, it took three minutes before Melrose profligacy became evident. From a penalty lineout Ryan Flett collected the ball and dived over to the right of the posts for a try converted by Liam Brims. The Melrose riposte only took four minutes when, from a penalty, Zen Szwagrzak and Donald Crawford made good yardage before off-loading to Corey Goldsbrough who scored an unconverted try ion the left corner. At 29 minutes, after some dodgy Melrose tackling, a series of plays developed ending with Isaiah Malaulau crashing over for a try converted by Brims. Hawks final score came at 35 minutes when Logan Jarvie spotted a loose ball on the Melrose side of a ruck and fly-hacked it ahead then beat Logan Kark for possession and managed to touch down with Brims’ conversion ending the Hawks scoring for the day.
Half time – Glasgow Hawks 21 Melrose 5
With 13 minutes of the second half played Zander Ramage dummied his way through a gap and off-loaded to Donald Crawford whose try at the posts was converted by Ramage. Five minutes later Tom Banatvala was yellow carded for irritating Italian Exchange referee Alberto Favaro. The final score of the day came at 75 minutes when Ramage toe-poked a penalty to gain Melrose a losing bonus point, the seventh out of eleven losing matches this season.
