Kelso v Melrose 13/9/25

Kelso v Melrose – 13/9/25

To-day’s Round 4 Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership match was played, initially, in dull, cold and damp conditions with intermittent showers. With a minute played a Melrose box kick out of defence, out-with the 22, went out on the full. Kelso won the resultant lineout, back, on the right and spread the ball wide left to Archie Barbour who dived into the left corner, by the Changing Rooms, for an unconverted try. Ten minutes later a Kelso kick out of defence, by Isaac Coates, in the Kelso left corner, was collected full on the face by Ben McLean who was pole-axed and, after on-field resuscitation, had to leave the field. At 19 minutes Dwain Patterson kicked a penalty from mid-field between the Melrose 10 & 22m lines. With half an hour played Melrose attacked down the far side. Finn Douglas received the ball on half-way and scampered down the touch-line to claim an unconverted try in the right corner.

Half time – Kelso 8 Melrose 5.

And then the sun came out, but not to Melrose’s advantage as they were facing into it. The third quarter was noticeable only for a plethora of replacements, then, at 66 minutes, Rory McHaffie levelled the scores with a penalty. Patterson returned the lead to Kelso with another penalty three minutes later and completed the scoring with his third penalty at 73 minutes.
