Berwick Sevens – 19/4/26
This tournament was scheduled to be played with four pools of three teams each. Unfortunately, there was an absence of one of the teams from each of pools A & C with the two remaining teams being asked to play each other twice, hence Melrose beating Boroughmuir 24-14 at the first time of asking and 33-12 at the second time. Melrose then defeated Selkirk 47-12 in the Semi-final. The Final, against Kelso, was a closely fought affair with Melrose leading 19-12 with a minute remaining before Archie Barbour nipped in for a converted try to level the scores at no-side. Extra time was then played with Donald Crawford scoring the “golden” try to give Melrose the victory 24-19.
