Melrose v Glasgow Hawks – 18/10/25

To-day’s Round 8 Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership match was played on a cool and dull, but still and dry afternoon. Melrose dominated possession and territory, but, apart from a Scott Clark penalty at 14 minutes, and both Paddy Anderson and Finn Douglas having runs from deep almost to the try line, there was a distinct lack of scoring with at least 90% of the first half spent in the Hawks half of the field.

Half time – Melrose 3 Glasgow Hawks 0

Melrose continued their possession and territory dominance when the second half started, then, following a series of penalties in front of the Hawks posts, at 49 minutes, Seb Hastings was sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle during a lineout. Failing to take the three points on offer Melrose then found themselves turned over allowing Hawks reprieve. At 57 minutes Hawks, from a scrum on the Melrose 10m line, won the ball passing out to James Couper whose reverse pass found Logan Jarvie letting the winger defeat the Melrose defence to score an unconverted try in the Policeman’s Corner to give Hawks an unexpected lead. Following another series of penalties under the Hawks posts, at 62 minutes, Clark kicked his second penalty to return the lead to Melrose. Three minutes later a series of Melrose mauls, following a lineout in St. Mary’s Corner, ended with Harri Morris bashing his way over, at last, for a try to the right of the posts with Clark adding the extras. With all the territory and possession Melrose should have scored many more points, but, at least, a win is a win!
