Peebles Sevens – 1/8/26

As 2025/26 “Kings of the Sevens” winners Melrose started the 2026/27 season with victory at Peebles. The original draw had had to be re-jigged due to three competing teams calling off beforehand. Peebles Blues were inserted into Pool “A”, a President’s VII into Pool “B” and Gala and Peebles playing each other twice as the only teams in Pool “D”.

In the first tie of the day Melrose were put to the sword by Selkirk, but managed to come through by 12 points to 10, before beating Peebles Blues 36-0. In the semi-final, with tries by Paddy Anderson, Callum Anderson (2) and Scott Clark to one by Fergus Kinneard, Melrose beat Hawick 28-5, then, in the final, Melrose tries by Henno Bowe, Paddy Anderson and Clark to Boroughmuir tries by Jordan Edmunds and Hayden Leitch gave Melrose a 19-12 lead at the break. The second half had hardly started before Gavin Lockhart levelled the score at 19 each. Thereafter converted tries by Douglas Crawford and Bowe gave Melrose a 33-19 victory. Melrose lead the “Kings of the Sevens”, but will need to wait 8 months before the next tournament.

Pool “B” – Hawick 40 President’s VII O; Hawick 14 Edinburgh Accies 12; Edinburgh Accies 57 President’s VII 14.

Pool “C” – Kelso 38 Jed-Forest 21; Boroughmuir 34 Jed-Forest 7; Boroughmuir 17 Kelso 10.

Pool “D” – Gala 17 Peebles 19; Gala 15 Peebles 26.

Semi-finals – MELROSE 28 Hawick 5; Boroughmuir 22 Peebles 12.

Final – MELROSE 33 Boroughmuir 19

Not only did the 1st VII win at Peebles, but our U16s won their competition too! A massive well done to them!
