Melrose Rugby Bulletin - 11/9/25

Evening Folks,
Hope everyone’s having a good week, and enjoyed some of the rugby our teams produced at the weekend! More on that later!
Firstly, Saturday 20th September is Ex-Players & Supporters Day at the club, this isn’t just for ex players, EVERYONE  is welcome! We’d really like to get the numbers firmed up for the caterer, we’ve heard that lots of you are planning to come, so if you haven’t already, and are hoping to come, please can you book on the website by the end of the weekend. Click on the image below to book your place!

Remember, these lunches are more than rugby - it’s about friendships, memories, and being part of the Melrose story. Come back, reconnect, make new friends, and cheer the lads on as they take on Currie.

This Weeks Rugby

This week’s rugby see’s the Storm & 1XV heading off down the Tweed to Kelso with the Kelso U18’s heading in the opposite direction to take on our Wasps at the Greenyards. Our junior teams are all heading to Hawick:

Saturday 6th saw our annual Ladies Day take place – what a fabulous day it was! A massive THANK YOU must go out to the Events Team who had the vision, organised it and set it all up. An even bigger THANK YOU goes to the bar staff, who worked their socks off! Rosie Cully & team put on a great meal, the players entertained us with their ‘talent’😉 and to the ladies who came and supported the club, we hope you had a great day and… THANK YOU ALL!

It wasn’t just Ladies Day on Saturday, it was our first clash with last year’s Premiership Champions, Ayr. What a match! We didn’t get a win, but it was a really competitive & entertaining game of rugby which had the crowd on their feet! The drumming in the stand & Morgan’s DJing skills added to the atmosphere – I hear he takes requests too! 😉

We did get a few nods in The Offside Line’s Dream Team of the week, so congrats go to Rory McHaffie,(available to support) Roly Brett & Zander McTaggart (available to support) & also to Melrose’ Man of the Match, Corey Goldsbrough who got an honourable mention! If you don’t follow our social media post’s I’d urge you to take a look now and then, there are some great photos of all the games at the weekend, we have some great photographers at the club, who very kindly share their images on our Facebook page.

Big Thanks!

I know I spend a lot of time thanking people in this bulletin, but there is small group of people who give a lot of their time behind the scenes, without who, the club would look very different! So let’s say a big old THANK YOU  to the grounds group who are keeping building in one piece. They’ve been fixing window frames, painting everything they can (Grant, George, Stuart, Keith), including lines on pitches, cutting grass (Roddy, Keith), cleaning the stand (Elise!) replacing seats (Malcolm) trimming the hedge all the way round the Greenyards (Roddy) & even crushing rubbish (George)! Apologies to anyone I've missed!

We do have a problem with litter at the club, especially in the stand! So if you fancy helping out & doing a bit of litter picking, please drop into the office and we’ll supply you with a bag and a litter picker! Everything that get’s left in the stands is cleared up by volunteers, so we’d love you all to spread the word and take as much home with you as you can! OK, enough talk about rubbish and back to rugby!

Hornets Festival

After the senior boys had their fun on Saturday, it was time for the Hornets to take to the pitch - wow! What a morning, hundreds and hundreds of kids from across the Borders came and joined in at our Hornets Festival - what a huge amount of organising that took, so well done to Paul and the crew - you pulled it off! Thanks to everyone who volunteered too; burgers were cooked, sweeties were sold & a giant inflatable was inflated and of course, rugby was played! The senior boys came down to help and the U18 Wasps ref'd & ran touch! A good day was had by all, great to see the future of the club having fun with their rugby!

Well I think I'll leave it there for now, enjoy the rugby this weekend - lets get behind the boys and turn Kelso #blackandyellow 🐝.

Until next time -
Very best wishes

Hilary
