Melrose v Biggar

MELROSE 29 | BIGGAR 45

SATURDAY 18th NOVEMBER | THE GREENYARDS

Saturday’s National League 1 match, a match of two halves, was played on a wet afternoon with the floodlights illuminated from the start. With four minutes played, and with the referee playing advantage from a high tackle, the ball was chipped left to Donald Crawford who nipped into the Church Corner for a try. Keiran Clark converted from the touch-line and seven minutes later kicked a penalty. From a scum 5 on the left, at 19 minutes, the ball was passed right, through several pairs of hands, to Connor Spence whose try between the posts was converted by Clark. Five minutes later Andrew Orr completed a penalty lineout rolling maul in the Policeman’s Corner with a try converted by Euan Bogle putting Biggar on the scoresheet. In immediate reply Melrose won a scrum on halfway the ball being passed to Clark who, flirting with the touchline, squeezed up the Stand side crossing to score and convert between the posts then, just at the break, Andrew Jardine fielded a poor Melrose kick out of defence on the Melrose 10m line and, without a hand being laid on him, raced unhindered to score between the posts with Bogle adding the extras.

KIERAN CLARK

MAN OF THE MATCH

Half time – Melrose 24 Biggar 14

One minute into the second half Spence was awarded a yellow card being the latest Melrose player to give away a series of penalties. The kick was sent to the Church Corner and from the resulting lineout rolling maul Orr scored his second try which Bogle converted. The Biggar bonus point try came four minutes later when Rowan Stewart raced into the Church Corner to score and Bogle convert from out wide. With another four minutes played Biggar pressure in St. Mary’s Corner was rewarded with Mark Bertram scoring and Bogle converting. Melrose woes continued when a lineout rolling maul in St. Mary’s Corner, at 65 minutes, was collapsed and Biggar were awarded a penalty try which completed their scoring. Small consolation for Melrose was their bonus point try when Matty Bertram completed slick Melrose passing to score an unconverted try in the Town Corner. Clark’s unsuccessful conversion attempt ended the match.
