Peebles v Melrose – 9/9/25

This Border League match was played as part of a three-session match with the second and third sessions counting for Border League points. The match was played in sunny conditions, but with a strong, gusty wind into which Melrose kicked off. After 15 minutes of play a series of plays ended with Jack Dobie scoring at the posts with Roly Brett converting. Seven minutes later Melrose put in a passing move up the right side with Roan Frostwick scoring in the right corner leaving Brett with a tricky, but successful, conversion into the wind. A further seven minutes on saw Melrose passing the ball right across the pitch for Dobie to score an unconverted try in the right corner.

Half time – Peebles 0 Melrose 19

Almost from the re-start Finn Douglas collected the ball on the Melrose 22 on the right before jinking and dancing diagonally up the pitch to score a lovely unconverted try to the left of the posts. Four minutes later Matty Bertram ended a Melrose move with a try converted by Brett. After a further six minutes Peebles attacked into the wind and, from a penalty, took play into the left corner where their hooker used his bulk to drive over for an unconverted try. The match ended with Dobie completing a series of picks and drives with his hat-trick try, and Brett’s conversion, with the aid of the wind, squeezed inside the far upright to add the extras.
