Melrose Rugby Bulletin - 30/7/26
Hello there -
Hope everyone's summer is going well, we're very much back in action at the Greenyards! Training has been on the go for the last few weeks, and it's great to see everyone back down a the club after a quiet spell while everyone was off on their holidays!
You may have heard there have been a few changes afoot here at the Club, Head of Youth Rugby and First XV Head Coach Iain ‘Chegg’ Chisholm left the Club last week to take up an exciting new role with Singapore Sevens.
Melrose Rugby would like to thank Chegg for the enormous contribution he’s made at the Club across every level. From launching our Breadalbane Rugby Academy, coaching multiple teams and even pulling on the jersey from time to time, Chegg went above and beyond in everything he did.
He will be a huge miss at the Greenyards, but we wish him all best in his new role in Singapore.
Thank you Chegg and we’re sure you won’t become a stranger! There will always be a warm welcome for you, Katie & your boys at the club.
Current 7s Head Coach Callum Anderson will take over as Interim Head Coach for the 1st XV and Craig Greer has taken on the role as Interim Youth Coach.

Kings of the 7s Round 1 - Peebles
Saturday sees Round 1 of the 26/27 Season of Kings of the Sevens! Peebles is where the action happens and the Melrose 7 kick off the action in Pool 1 against Selkirk at 2pm. Our 2nd pool game is at 4:30pm against the RSDG (Royal Scots Dragoon Guards). Go well boys! Would be nice to get the trophy again (no pressure 😉!)
U16s Rugby - The South
Congratulations to all our U16 Wasps who represented the South yesterday in round 1 of the SRU Regional Fixtures:
Ewan Dickson, Oliver Robbie, Josh Burne, Thomas Redmayne, William Campbell, Rory Wight, Daragh McLaughlin, Finlay Brown, Junior Dalziel and Jinyong Gulvin.
There were also plenty other Wasps in the squad who are currently injured or unavailable, who will hopefully feature in future fixtures 💪

Sad News...
Everyone at the club was saddened to hear of the passing of long time club member Lt. Col. (Rtd) Ross Thomson last week. Ross & his late wife Paulina were keen supporters of the club, and he very much enjoyed watching grandson Chris play in the Melrose colours a couple of years ago. As a member of the KOSB, colleague & friend to Frank Coutts, we were honoured to have Ross present the Frank Coutts Young Player of the Season on a few occasions too.
We send our deepest condolences to his family at this sad time.
Ross's funeral service will take place at 11am on Tuesday 11th August at Holy Trinity Church, Melrose.
Melrose Rugby AGM
This year's AGM will take place on Wednesday 19th August. All AGM papers and info will be sent out via email tomorrow - Friday 31st.
