Melrose Rugby Bulletin - 5/6/26
Good Afternoon to you!
What a busy couple of weeks we've had here at the Greenyards! I'm going to start with a GREAT BIG THANK YOU! As is always the case, a huge amount of work goes into putting on Melrose 7s - it's a wonderful example of volunteers with a common goal coming together to do their best for the club. We all know that the 7s or 'Sports' was started to raise money to keep the club afloat, and that's still the main aim today - and what a marvellous day of entertaining rugby it was!
On behalf of the club/membership, a huge 'THANK YOU' goes out to the whole 7s Steering Group; from the Social Media & Marketing teams to the Rugby, Finance & Hospitality groups, they engaged our visitors & encouraged people down to the town for the day. Our top notch commentary team put in a heck of a shift, our Stewards, Ball kids, Mascot & Ball Kid wranglers, bar staff, coaches, players and everyone else who played a part in the day. It really was a team effort - and what a team they were!
You can re-live the day by heading to NextGen's YouTube page where the action is available to watch of all 3 pitches - click on the button below to view
I mentioned our commentary team earlier, not only do Mac, Iain, Ali & Roy keep us informed all day, but Iain compiles his match report each week of the season, and all through 7s season. He's been busy this year with all these finals the boys have got to! To read his report of the 7s and view lots of pictures, click on the button below!
Edinburgh 7s
Saturday past saw the finalé of the Kings of the 7s competition, and it really did come down to the last tournament! I think it's fair to say we deserved to the win the Kings - the boys were pretty consistent & played and won a LOT of rugby to win the cup. It was a really good day in Edinburgh which came down to an Accies v Melrose final - unfortunately we came out the wrong side, but the blow was softened by bringing the Kings of the 7s cup back home to the Greenyards! Click on the image for Iain's match report & to view an Malcolm's photos of the day. A big thank you to Malcolm for driving the mini-bus, definitely got more than you bargained for there Malcolm!
Kings of the Sevens!
Boroughmuir 10s
As the 1st VII were playing at Accies, the U15 Wasps were over at Boroughmuir 10s - they had a brilliant day and came away as the Champions! Congratulations to them & have a good night at your end of season shindigg!

Hornets End of Season Celebration
On Sunday morning the Hornets enjoyed an end of season celebration over on the triangle, there was zorbing, nerf shooting, a barbeque and general fun enjoyed by all! A huge thanks goes out to the volunteers who organised it all! Click on the link for an album of photos!
Not only were the Hornets celebrating their season, but the big kids got to have some fun too - the 7s team headed up to the bowling club on Sunday to enjoy an epic BBQ and a bit of competitive bowling to celebrate their successful season! A bit of time off now for the players before getting back to training in early July.

It's just come to my attention that it's 'Volunteers Week' this week. Melrose Rugby would be nothing without it's amazing volunteers. We simply could not function. So, on behalf of the players & staff, THANK YOU for all you do! You are all superstars & very much appreciated.
And finally...
Have a superb weekend everyone, especially our very own Thomas Brown and his wife to be Hannah Duncan who get married tomorrow. Have a fabulous weekend and a wonderful life together!
Warm wishes
