Melrose Rugby Bulletin 6/11/2025
Hope everyone is doing well this dreich & dreary week! It’s been fairly quiet at The Greenyards, although yesterday we had some rugby fans here from Georgia, who were lucky enough to meet up with Ian Cooper who gave them a tour of the club!
The ground crew were also here yesterday shifting leaves and tidying up around the site. A big thank you to them!
We didn’t have any senior rugby last weekend but the junior members of the club were all in action. The Under 13s & 15s headed up to Howe of Fife where they took on Bell Baxter High School. The 13s lost by a score and the 15s recorded a very big win!! Great to see them touring the country through rugby! The U18s were also on the road at the weekend, they headed through to West of Scotland and got the win in a close match, with a final score of 29 - 27! The U16s hosted Ayr on Sunday and what a great day that was – lots of you came out to support them and the senior players brought the drum out for the occasion! Great stuff – they got the win with a score of 29 – 21 and head on to a semi-final meet up with the Dumfries Saints here at the Greenyards on November 23rd.
The U16s in action on Sunday against Ayr - thanks to Reiver Photography for the excellent photos!
This Weekend's Rugby
This weekend’s rugby is all about the South and our Junior teams! Friday night see’s the South’s opening game against Edinburgh at Hawick. Kick off is 7:30pm. Finn Douglas, Sam Derrick, Angus Runciman & Jack Dobie all start with Oli Anderson & Scott Clark on the bench. A mention too for Monroe Job, although he plays for Selkirk he's our DO and coach so all though not a Melrose player, he's part of the club! Go well boys!
The Storm were due to take on Jed A on Friday night, but unfortunately that game has been cancelled. We've tried to find a replacement team, but it is not to be.
Saturday is the turn of the U13s, 14s & 15s who all head to Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, things kick off there are 10:30am. The U16s have the weekend off and the U18s head over the border to Morpeth, the match kicks off there at 1:30pm.
Scottish Rugby's Hall of Fame
You may already have seen that our very own Rob Moffat was inducted into Scottish Rugby’s Hall of Fame last Thursday night at a glittering ceremony in Edinburgh. His fellow inductees included Roy Laidlaw, Scott Hastings, Rob Wainwright to name just 3. Rob is now officially an Icon (we've all known that for a long time)! Congratulations Moff, we could not be prouder, and this recognition is so very well deserved. To read more about the ceremony and the other inductees, click on the photo below:

Six Nations Away Games
Just a quick up-date on our Ireland & Wales tickets...we've still not received our ticket notification from Scottish Rugby, there has been a delay with allocating tickets to clubs which was meant to happen by last Friday, Scottish Rugby were hoping to have them to us this week, but it's not happened yet...I'll keep you posted!
Well I think that's about all our news for this week. Enjoy the rugby if you're heading to Hawick or indeed Murrayfield for the New Zealand game!
Warm wishes,
Hilary
